The United Nations Foundation: Start a Girl Up Chapter
Emily Tan Yi Lyn Worldwide
We believe in the power of girls. Girls have a tremendous, often untapped power to change the world. Girl Up helps girls access their inner power to advance the skills, rights, and opportunities of girls everywhere.  Girl Up was founded by the UN Foundation in 2010 as an initiative to help support UN agencies that focus on adolescent girls. We focus on building leadership within individual girls first, including self-confidence, personal accountability and long-term aspirations. Our programs help girls to hone their skills in community organizing, goal setting, and effective communication. Girls who complete our programming report increased confidence, higher levels of civic participation, and a stronger conviction and ability to take action for global good.  All around the world, our network of a million supporters is mobilizing for gender equality. Will you stand with us? Through education, fundraising, advocacy and service, Girl Up Club members develop the leadership...

Emily Tan Yi Lyn Worldwide
ReadAble Singapore is a community of passionate people who believe in beating poverty one word at a time.  WE TEACH. Since January 2014, ReadAble has been running weekly reading and language arts classes for children ages 2 to 15 in a neighbourhood in the Chin Swee area. We started out teaching in children’s homes, but have grown to occupy classrooms in the Residents’ Committee Centre. We teach a phonics-based curriculum to our earliest readers and deliver a programme which complements the primary school syllabus for those who have mastered the basics of reading. We use drama, movement and play to draw out a love for reading, build self-confidence, and encourage creativity. WE BUILD. ReadAble has built a community library of over a thousand books for our kids to freely access books at every reading level throughout the week. We also organise educational excursions to plays and museums, as well as connect kids’ families with community resources, such as school supply donations...
