The Student Enterprise Awards Mini-Company Programme, Laois

The Student Enterprise Awards Mini-Company Programme is the biggest enterprise competition for students in Ireland. It helps students to grasp real life skills associated with running a real enterprise including working as part of a team, managing production and finances, organizing a sales and marketing campaign and liaising directly with customers, judges and the media. Over the 10 years the Enterprise Boards have run this competition we have seen some remarkable success stories with high levels of innovation, ingenuity and clever sales pitches. What is really striking is how confident young people are in presenting their final proposals with many teachers remarking that students often develop self-confidence as they work their way through the different stages of their business. ATS Ireland: Spanish Debating World Cup

The Association of Teachers of Spanish in Ireland exists to support and promote the teaching of Spanish in Irish Secondary Schools. As part of this, the Association co-ordinates events to develop the use of the Spanish language for students through our Debating Competition and Quiz. ATS hold a 'world cup' style Spanish debating competition with every team guaranteed to have a minimum of 2 debates. The teams for the Cup and the Plate will be split after the quarter finals.

Trinity College Dublin: Trinity Access Programme

The courses were set up in 2004 to build on the success of the TAP foundation courses. TAP/CDETB courses offer another way to third-level for students who have the ability to benefit from and succeed in higher education, but who come from socio-economic groups where few people go on to college. Students take part in a range of ‘taster’ activities in Trinity including: an orientation programme library workshops study skills workshops educational guidance workshops ‘Mini Trinity Week’ At the end of the course, students receive a certificate of participation in the university access programme from TAP.

UCD: Sport and Exercise Summer Study Abroad

The UCD Sport and Exercise Summer Study Abroad Program provides is aimed at students with an interest/majoring in Sport Management, Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Science and/or Nutrition. It provides an excellent opportunity to spend two weeks in Ireland whilst also meeting requirements for progression on your degree. The Program runs in early June each year and offers an exciting combination of academic, social and cultural activities, including a chance to learn more about and experience first-hand those uniquely Irish ‘Gaelic Games’. The minimum GPA requirement is 2.70 In addition to completing the UCD on-line application process, a copy of your passport and an official University transcript of academic record to date are required.

UCD: Clinton Institute Summer School

The UCD Clinton Institute Summer School brings together scholars and graduate students from around the world to engage in wide-ranging discussion on interdisciplinary study of the United States. The School is aimed at advanced graduate students and junior faculty in the fields of American Studies, History, Political Sciences and Literary and Cultural Studies. The programme will offer participants the opportunity to work with distinguished figures in these fields and to investigate current developments in study of the United States and its global relations. The School’s format will include daily workshop seminars and plenary lectures. Participants work with the School’s core faculty in one of four week-long seminars.

UCD: Nursing Summer Program

The programme consists of a two week taught tuition period with an option to spend a further two weeks of research activity under the guidance of an experienced researcher. There are two 5 ECTS courses to choose from, students may take one or both. The Health Systems course offers an opportunity for the student to learn about and critically analyse the main types of health care systems found around the world. The other option is a research for practice course. The purpose of this course will be twofold: First to introduce students to research designs most commonly used in healthcare research and secondly to facilitate students in the learning of skills relating to the retrieval, critical appraisal and application to practice of research evidence. Participants are supported to make connections between their own lives and international social justice issues, and be empowered to make a positive difference in the world. Trócaire offers tailored global justice workshops to groups with a minimum of 15 young people aged 15-25. Erasmus + Youth Work Music & Cultural Entrepreneurship

  Youth Work Ireland has formed a strategic partnership with youth services from across Europe who use music as a tool for supporting the development of young people. These partners include; UK Youth, Youth Cymru (Wales), Samfés (Iceland), Youth Scotland, Lithuanian Children and Youth Centre and Youth Action Northern Ireland, with Youth Work Ireland as the lead partner. The most recent achievement of this partnership has been the successful funding of a KA2 Erasmus + project entitled Youth Work ‐ Music and Cultural Entrepreneurship. Among HOBY’s ongoing opportunities for young people to serve and grow are more than 70 weekend HOBY Leadership Seminars held in the U.S. each spring. These programs are only possible through the efforts of more than 4,000 volunteers dedicated to making a difference for the youth of their state. New volunteers are encouraged to get involved. UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development: Youth Leadership Training

ECO-UNESCO Ireland, in conjunction with UNESCO is running the Flagship UNESCO ‘Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Youth Leadership’ training.  This joint UNESCO and ECO-UNESCO training is part of the UNESCO Global Action Programme (GAP) and aims to empower young people to inspire and mobilise others to take action towards a more sustainable and just future. The Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative Dublin

The family of the late great Dermot Earley Snr believe a new initiative in his honour can help the next generation of young Irish leaders make their mark in the world. The Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative, brought together by the GAA, Foróige and National University of Ireland Galway, commenced in Parnell Park on Wednesday 9th September for North Dublin clubs and Wednesday 16th September for South Dublin Clubs. 27 young GAA club members took on the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through this exciting programme that evokes and honours the values Dermot epitomised and held so dear. Participants aged between 15- and 18-years-old, will explore all elements of leadership before being asked to put their skills to work in their own clubs and communities. Those who complete all three modules between September 2015 and May 2016 will be eligible to graduate from NUIG with a Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action.

Youth Leadership Development Competition  This competition is one of our longest running youth projects and it rewards young people with clear leadership potential based on their extra-curricular activities. Last year we reviewed the format of the competition and we will keep this programme for the coming school year. Winners will visit Belfast and meet with local politicians and business leaders, then we travel to Dublin for further meetings with leaders and then the highlight of the trip will be to debate a variety of motions in the European Parliament in Strasbourg at Euroscola.
