Prêmio Jovem Cientista is a competition that aims to reveal young talents, encourage scientific research in the country and to invest in students and young researchers who wish to innovate and solve problems in our society. Beginning in 1981, this award is a CNPq initiative - the first Federal Institution to foster science, technology, and innovation in Brazil. Currently, PJC has the financial support of Fundação Roberto Marinho, Fundação Grupo Boticário and Banco do Brazil.
Each year a theme is selected and students must develop a project that determines a way to solve this problem. The winners of Prêmio Jovem Cientista (in the High School category) will each receive a laptop and a CNPq scholarship to develop their project.
