UWC is a global educational movement with the mission to "make education a force to unite people, nations, and cultures for peace and a sustainable future". High school students go through a multi-stage, competitive selection process in their individual countries to be chosen to spend two years at one of seventeen UWC schools in seventeen different countries, completing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. In addition to academics, UWC emphasizes diversity, healthy lifestyle, sustainability and practicing skills like leadership, responsibility, and discipline, along with Extra Curricular activities on each of their campuses.

In 2018, over 1400 students applied, and only 21 were approved from Brazil.
The application fee and the yearly costs of each UWC school varies. The program does provide tuition scholarships, but these also vary from student to student.
