The Concurso Canguru de Matemática is an international mathematics competitions for students from the 3rd grade of elementary school through the 3rd year of high school. Founded in France and organized by the Association Kangourou sans Frontières - AKSF, the Canguru is the largest mathematics competition in the world with more than 6 million participants in over 75 different countries. The Concurso Canguru Matemática Brasil has existed for 10 years and seeks to increase student interest in pure and applied mathematics.

The top 1% of participants nationally in each age group receive a Gold Medal; the top 2% receive a Silver Medal; the top 3% receive a Bronze medal; and the top 4% receive an Honorable Mention.

BRL$62 registration fee for public schools and BRL$124 registration fee for private schools that wish to participate.

Students can compete with just the knowledge of mathematics that they acquire from their regular school classes. However, better prepared students are more likely to receive a medal in the competition.

1 hour and 40 minute exam applied in students' schools.
1. School completes initial registration online and pays registration fee by February 28, 2019.
2. School representative submits the names of students that will take the test through the Canguru online system by March 7, 2019.
3. Test is applied at each individual school on March 21, 2019.
4. Medals and scores are released: April 22, 2019.
