The New Zealand Interschools Chess Championship is organised by the New Zealand Chess Federation, providing the largest chess competition for students to compete nationwide. The Interschools Finals typically take place late September and are the culmination of a huge programme of regional qualifiers, selecting for the top chess players in the country.

This large scale event encourages students to learn and participate in the stimulating game of chess and compete towards becoming top scorers.
