Description

The International Geography Olympiad (iGEO) is an exciting annual event for the best geography students to represent their country and compete with other students at the highest level. The Olympiad encourages active interest in geographical studies among young people. The programme stimulates learning and passion about geography both as a subject and as an important part of modern society, and facilitates cultural and social exchange between young people from all over the world.

The top geography students compete in three events: a written test, a multimedia test, and a fieldwork challenge requiring observation, cartographic representation, and geographical analysis. A rich programme also provides students with a wealth of opportunities for cultural exchange, learning from poster presentations by teams, and time to explore the host city in parallel with the competition events. The 2019 International Geography Olympiad will be held in Hong Kong, which will be a suitably vibrant and diverse locality for geographical exploration and study.
