Have you ever wanted to start your own fashion brand, but also wanted it to create impact? Then you’re in the right place! This document will explain what WEEDO does and how you could bring your business to life with us :)
WEEDO is a non-profit organization in Tanzania that helps girls ages 15-25 who could not complete their primary school education due to a variety of challenging circumstances (ie. teenage pregnancy, arranged marriage, domestic violence etc).
The program provides free education and housing to the girls for up to one year, providing them with the foundations to be confident and independent women in the workforce. Along with learning essentials such as English and computer skills, they also learn to become excellent seamstresses.
How does this relate to my fashion business?
The young women at WEEDO are extremely eager to put their sewing skills to use and make income to support themselves and oftentimes, their children. If you have always dreamed of starting a small fashion line, but did not want to contribute to the exploitation of overseas manufacturing, then this is for you. By working with these women to sew your garments, you would help them become financially independent and create a livelihood that will empower them. Your fashion brand would change lives and create lasting social impact. In fact, by producing your fashion line in an artisanal and sustainable manner, you would have a unique differentiator with brand values that stand out.
