The Chinese Essay Competition is an opportunity for New Zealand students at secondary schools and tertiary institutions to showcase their Chinese writing. Non-native speakers of Chinese are invited to by the Confucius Institute of the University of Auckland to extend their language skills into oral written expression and produce original written work in Chinese.
Students compete for the Ambassador's Trophy, as well as First, Second, and Third Prizes for each schooling category. Merit Awards also recognise students who have produced outstanding work in each category.
