The National Latin Exam is proud to award annually 16 $2,000 scholarships to qualifying high school seniors. Applications for these scholarships are mailed to gold medal winners on the Advanced Latin Prose Exam, the Advanced Latin Poetry Exam, and the Advanced Latin Reading Comprehension Exam. Those who apply and are accepted must agree to take at least one course per semester of Latin or classical Greek in their first year of college. A course in classics translation does not meet this requirement.

In addition, a $2000 scholarship will be awarded for post graduate study leading to the teaching of Latin and/or Greek at the elementary, intermediate, or high school level.

These scholarship awards and those for the National Greek Exam will be announced by National Latin Exam at the ACL Institute in June.

The scholarship recipients from 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 are eligible for an additional $2,000 if they continue their study of Latin and/or Greek.

Application Process Includes

  • Schools in the United States pay $6.00 USD per exam; $10.00 for ordering only one exam.
  • Schools outside the United States pay $8.00 per exam; $10.00 for ordering only one exam; US funds only, drawn off of a US bank.
  • For orders to a school address, there is a $15.00 shipping and handling charge per registration. For deliveries to a residence or for foreign orders, there is a $30.00 shipping and handling charge. There is also a $5.00 charge for paying by credit card.
  • Purchase orders are NOT accepted in lieu of check or money order.
  • NLE charges schools requesting extra "Instruction Sheets for the Examiners". Some of our participating schools request additional copies of the Instructions for Examiner forms (the “Blue Sheet”) and return envelopes. These schools are often distance or online learning programs with students spread out across the country. The teachers request the extra Blue Sheets and return envelopes so that each testing site will have these materials. The National Latin Exam is happy to fill the request for additional materials; however, in the last year it has come to our attention that the printing and mailing costs for filling these requests have become excessive. Unfortunately, this means that we must begin charging an additional fee for schools that make these requests. Schools that request between 11-50 extra blue sheets and return envelopes will incur an additional $25 fee. Schools that request 51 or more extra blue sheets and return envelopes will be charged an additional $50 fee. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. We look forward to your school’s continued participation in the National Latin Exam.
