The Black Swan Prize for Portraiture Youth Award provides young artists with an opportunity to showcase their creative talents and to challenge them from an artistic perspective through the field of portraiture. Students in years 7-12, and adolescent patients at Perth Children's Hospital (PCH), are invited to paint a portrait of a well known Australian, an Australian they respect/admire, or undertake a self-portrait. The youth competition identifies emerging artists and encourages them to have faith in themselves and their developing skills.
There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes of up to AU$1,000 to be won, as well as great prizes for schools. The Young Heritage Prize challenges students to create a piece of art that portrays the heritage of the city of Perth, Australia. The prize aims to raise awareness and educate children on the history of Central Perth. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes of up to AU$500 to be awarded for outstanding entries. The competition runs annually and there is a fee of AU$15 per entry.
