Commonwealth Youth New Zealand is a nation-wide, youth-led nonprofit organisation dedicated to developing young New Zealanders and promoting the significance of the Commonwealth and its values. They provide opportunities for young people in New Zealand to become the next generation of global leaders. They empower young people to realise their potential, act on issues they are passionate about, and unlock their natural leadership skills. CHOGM provides an accessible network and platform to represent the voices, achievements and interests of young people, and to build their confidence through mentoring.
National Student CHOGM is the premier annual event hosted by Commonwealth Youth New Zealand. In this setting, high school students will get to take on the role of Head of Government or Foreign Minister of a Commonwealth member state, or as a special envoy from an observer organisation. Held over two days in Wellington at Parliament, delegates debate everything from climate change to monetary policy from the perspective of the government they are representing. Delegates also get to participate in a model Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) scenario where they are tasked with resolving a burgeoning conflict between two fictional member states.
