The Brazilian Math Olympiad for Public and Private Schools has as its main goal to encourage students to use and develop their knowledge in mathematics, identify young talents, encourage teachers to improve their classes, integrate students from different schools, and promote social equality throughout knowledge. Students sit for an exam in their home schools and compete for medals with other young people in the same age group from around the nation. Those that qualify for top medals can go on and compete in regional and international competitions, representing Brazil.
