The Schultheater der Länder is a nationwide festival for school theatre groups of all school levels and school types, which takes place annually in another federal state. The Schultheater der Länder is a common cause. Each federal state is therefore represented by a group that carries on the impulses of the festival. The groups selected by a federal jury present their productions at the festival, discuss them together in follow-up discussions and take part in workshops. The Schultheater der Länder is geared to the professional quality standards of the Kultusministerkonferenz. It is supported by the Mercator Foundation and the Länder Ministries of Education and Cultural Affairs.
It presents in six days the variety of school theatres of all school types and grades from all 16 German states. The SDL shows an exemplary school theatre that, through its aesthetic diversity, provides impulses for school practice. As part of the conference, which takes place at the same time, the theme of the festival will also be scientifically illuminated and will be didactically enhanced in workshops and specialist forums. This is a nationwide artistic competition with annually changing topics, discussion workshops, symposiums, and other programs. For over 30 years, the SDL has been a central meeting place for the school theatre scene. School theatre makes a change in pupils, in schools and in society.
