CodeUnited Global

CodeUnited Global is a non-profit organization created to help girls from grades 1 to 12 from across the world to become familiar with computer programming. We are reaching out to schools across the world, who have students who are girls with access to the internet and computers but do not have enough means to continue their education in Computer Science as they are not exposed to it or encouraged to pursue it. Although there are many organizations trying to encourage and teach girls to join the field of Computer Science, we are specifically reaching out to girls who are in areas where they are not taught Computer Science. We give them direction and guidance in this career path by teaching basic programming skills. We teach them through online video calls. Generally, in remote areas of the world, we see that girls are not encouraged to continue their education in such fields, but our goal is to break such norms. If we can help them achieve their dreams by supporting them in such a way, we should.

Although the pandemic has caused much of the world to come to a standstill, we believe innovation and ingenuity have not ceased to exist, especially in students who have experienced the effects of COVID-19 firsthand. As a team of four motivated high school upperclassmen, we started AstraHacks, a female-led hackathon that aims to empower high school students to design an application that targets a problem being faced by society during the COVID-19 pandemic. AstraHacks 2020 will be a nine-day event starting on August 28th with guest speakers, expert mentors, workshops, and prizes. We are hoping to provide inspiration to many students whose summer programs have been canceled and would love to have you stand in support with us. The hackathon takes place from August 28th, 2020 to September 6th, 2020. For more details, our Website is: https://tinyurl.com/astrahacks
