The Waikato National Secondary Schools' Mooting Competition is an opportunity for Year 11, 12 and 13 students to develop their advocacy skills in a competitive environment. Approximately 40 New Zealand schools participate in an intense competition held over May - July every year. The Waikato Faculty of Law is the only New Zealand law school that has hosted this competition since 2001. This challenge offers future lawyers to practice many practical legal skills during their studies. These skills include client interviewing, witness examination and negotiations. Importantly, mooting is considered to be the most prestigious as it poses a number of professional and personal challenges. Through the competition participants will learn and apply vital legal skills relevant for their future legal careers. The Midland MRI National Youth Art Award is a prestigious competition held every year for young New Zealand artists. All young artists in New Zealand between the ages of 15 and 27 are invited to enter this significant competition. This award is open to independent artists as well as students who are prepared to jump the boundaries of their curriculum. Hamilton has been the host for this award for the past few years, the only award in New Zealand exclusive to talented young artists. Prizes totalling $4500 along with Gordon Harris People’s Choice award. The finalists will have their work on show to the public, for a month, at ArtsPost Gallery, in Hamilton, New Zealand. These finalists create an outstanding exhibition which showcases the immense creative talent present in our young people today.
